Personal Growth vs Relationship
I’m not the same girl I was a year ago and I thank God everyday for it. Although its natural for me to seek growth or learnings from each situation I face, I recognize that my growth, revelations, path to fulfillment etc will not always resonate well with the people around me. Someone who met me at one point in time and liked what they saw may unreasonably expect for me to stay that way… If not forever for at least the amount of time it takes for them to undergo some major calling for empathy.

Today, Michelle Obama was the commencement speaker at my dear alma mater, Spelman College. Not only did she recount our institution’s great history which consists of extremely humble beginnings but she charged the young women to remember their obligation to do amazing things in this world; simply because they are now armed with degrees from Spelman. Whew! I was almost in tears listening to her remind me of why I chose to spend an insane amount of money for that valuable experience. There is nothing that compares to the sisterhood I am a part of and I was so happy to see 550 more women join me in the world of a Spelman alum. Congrats c/o 2011.
